Truckee River
Nevada's marquee trout river - the cold outflow of Lake Tahoe running through Reno to terminal Pyramid Lake. The upper reaches near the state line grow big wild browns and rainbows in classic freestone pocket water; downtown Reno is a genuine urban trout fishery; and below Derby Dam the flow carries Pyramid-strain Lahontan cutthroat. Flows run high with Sierra snowmelt May-July, then settle into prime wading shape by late summer.

East Walker River
A blue-ribbon brown-trout tailwater below Bridgeport Reservoir, flowing out of California into Nevada near Mason - cold releases, deep undercut banks, and big, wary browns and rainbows. Flow is reservoir-controlled, so the release schedule matters more than any single number; it fishes best on stable, moderate flows.

East Fork Carson River
The larger, wilder Carson fork dropping out of the Sierra above Gardnerville - a freestone trout river of long runs and gravel bars holding rainbows, browns, and mountain whitefish. Snowmelt runs it high and pushy into early summer; it settles into excellent wading by late summer and fall.

West Walker River
The West Walker drops out of the Sierra through Antelope Valley below Topaz Lake - a freestone-and-tailwater mix of runs and pocket water holding rainbows and browns. Snowmelt runs it high into summer; below Topaz the flow is partly reservoir-managed and settles into good wading by late season.

East Fork Owyhee River
The East Fork Owyhee carves out of the high desert of far northeastern Nevada below Wild Horse Reservoir - a cold tailwater and canyon river of runs and pools holding rainbows, browns, and smallmouth. The tailwater below the dam fishes best on stable releases; downstream toward Mountain City it grades into rock and warmwater bass water.

Carson River
The main-stem Carson below the forks - a valley river running through Carson City and Dayton to Lahontan Reservoir, then reborn as a warmwater tailwater below the dam. The upper valley reach holds trout and whitefish; below Lahontan the current carries walleye, wiper, catfish, and largemouth pulled through with the releases.

Humboldt River
Nevada's longest river and the great artery of the north - the Humboldt runs the width of the state from Elko to the Rye Patch sink without ever reaching the sea. It's a warmwater fishery of smallmouth, catfish, carp, and walleye/wiper spillover, with wild Lahontan cutthroat still holding in cold tributary refuges. Flows swing hard with snowmelt and drought - long reaches run turbid and warm in summer and can go intermittent in dry years.

Walker River
The main-stem Walker below the forks runs through Yerington and the Mason Valley toward terminal Walker Lake - a warmwater river of slow bends, catfish holes, and bass backwaters, with walleye and wiper below the reservoirs. The lowest reach near Walker Lake runs thin and can nearly dry in drought; the conservancy's flow-restoration work is slowly rebuilding it.
